Seven Techniques for Toddler Discipline

New Baby Ideas

Providing consistent, positive discipline for toddlers can be very challenging. Here are seven techniques to use during those sometimes difficult years. When these techniques are used consistently these tips can provide parents with valuable discipline tools.

Time out is the most well known form of discipline. A good guide line to use is one minute per year of age. When putting a toddler in the time out area parents may need to stand with or stand over the child until their time is up. When it is over, discuss with the child in simple words what they did wrong.

Use redirection to distract a toddler from undesired behavior or dangerous situations. Direct the toddler to something safer or desired.

Sometimes ignoring the behavior is the best option. This is especially effective for tantrums. Ignoring the tantrum can make a dramatic, emotional episode more calm for discussion. Don’t indulge the child by giving them attention during a tantrum.

Model cooperative and positive behavior with other children and family members in your home. Use words like “please” and “thank you” rather than demand a task to completed.

Maintain structure in the toddler’s environment. Many problems can be avoided and positive behavior encouraged by simply making the child’s environment less likely to have less “no” situations.

Set boundary's. Boundary's provide security, so make some “no option rules”. For example, a rule may be that parent and child always hold hands in the parking lot or crossing the street.

Finally use lots of praise. Catch your child doing something good and reward them!

    Tips on Finding A Nanny

Responsible nannies are always in demand as couples or parents are more than willing to pay them any amount to look after their kids. Most couples are working today and because of that they need a person to take care of their little ones in their absence.

It is not so easy to find the right nanny for the children but with some patience you are likely to come across the perfect nanny.

Parents consider many things before hiring a baby sitter. First and foremost, they will have to figure out whether they need a live in or a live out nanny for their baby. Needless to say, both have their advantages and disadvantages. One has to carefully weigh the pros and cons to arrive at a good decision. Some want live-in nannies for their children while others prefer live out nannies for many reasons. Live-in or live-out nanny is two options before parents.

There are several nanny wanted ads in newspapers daily. Having a live-in nanny has many advantages, let us see what they are:

    Advantages of a live-in nanny

Couples feel that there are definite advantages to having a live- in nanny for their babies because once they hire them they will not have to worry about anything. It is very natural for people to have personal choices but live-in nanny is worth considering as they fulfill the requirements of the parents. However, one needs to consider the pros and cons carefully before hiring them. Couples read the nanny wanted advertisements in the newspapers while searching a baby sitter.

    * The cost factor is of prime importance while looking for nanny. Many parents find live-in nanny affordable. It is one of the reasons why people prefer to have a live-in nanny in America. These days' live-in nannies can be hired at lower salaries as they get free room and board facility for their services. Also they do not expect much salary as they are new immigrants to the country.

    * The live-in nannies are more flexible when it comes to work schedule and are preferred than others. A live-in nanny is the first choice when parents have to travel or are in need of overnight care for the kids.

    * The live-in nannies can be hired to work additional hours at a short notice

    Disadvantages of a live-in nanny

There are disadvantages too in hiring a live-in nanny for your baby. Employers need to consider them too.

Live-in nannies are definitely the right choice but many parents and nannies have problems regarding their privacy. Although it is nice to have a nanny as a part of your family there may be differences between the two parties concerning matters. If they intrude upon each others space, then they may even have fights that cannot be avoided. For that reason, it is advised that families that are looking for nanny should have a good accommodation for the baby sitter. At the beginning itself, there should be clear guidelines. Thus, a problem will never arise.
