New Baby Resources

When bringing home a new baby, a babysitter is sometimes needed to help out with the care of the new child. A babysitter can either watch the baby on their own while the parents are at work or doing errands, or just help take care of the baby as needed while adjusting to having a new baby in the house.

Finding a babysitter can be done in several ways. Word of mouth can be helpful in finding a babysitter. Neighbors, coworkers or even church members may know someone reliable who can care for a baby. Asking other parents can also help as they may have a favorite babysitter or have recommendations. Another option is to use community message boards online or through other local groups to find out if anyone has a babysitter recommendation.

Other resources for babysitters can be found online as there are several sites that offer databases for sitters. While the content may vary, often the sites will offer feedback and references which can be useful for new parents. When picking a new babysitter always ask for references and interview the sitter before agreeing to services to be sure that they are capable.

After choosing a babysitter, make sure that they do know what to do in case of an emergency and provide any phone numbers necessary before leaving the sitter alone. In some cases such as with childhood allergies or other health conditions it may be advisable to find a sitter who knows CPR and has basic first aid knowledge.
